Coronavirus (COVID-19): the policing response and what you need to know

Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Watson

Nikki was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable Prevention Protection and Prosecutions in June 2015, following almost a year’s service as Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Local Policing.

She joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1987 and has served in both uniform and CID roles, developing a good knowledge and understanding of the Force and expertise in operational policing.

As Chief Inspector she worked in Operational Planning where her responsibilities included planning policing at Glastonbury festival. She also served as Chief Constable Steve Pilkington’s Staff Officer and was the Operational Chief Inspector at Bath.

In 2004, Nikki was promoted to Superintendent and was seconded to Bristol City Council where she was responsible for the drugs intervention programme and increasing the number of offenders getting into drug treatment. A couple of years later Nikki returned to Force to take up the position of Superintendent Firearms and Roads Policing.

Nikki took up the position of BCU Commander in Somerset East in 2006 and moved to command the wider Somerset Area in 2013. During her time in Somerset, she was accredited as an ACPO Silver Commander and has experience of major public and sporting events and is a chemical biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) silver commander.

She spent the seven and a half years as an Area Commander developing partnership working and during the later years of budget cuts, working together with key stakeholders and other public bodies to maximise the effective use of reducing resources.

Nikki is married and has two daughters.
