Request a crime or accident report

You, your solicitor or insurance company can request a copy of a crime or accident (road traffic collision) report. You will need to pay a fee for this service.

a solicitors and insurance companies crime report

Solicitors and insurance companies can request a copy of a crime report on behalf of their clients or insured parties.

Solicitors must have the client’s authorisation before making the request.

Insurance companies are responsible for providing ‘Appendix D’ in accordance with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) / NPCC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

If an individual makes the request, they will only receive information that is personal to them.

To request a copy of a crime report, send your request and the required fee to:

an interview with police officers regarding a road traffic accident

Requests for interviews with police officers will be considered by that officer if:

  • there are exceptional circumstances
  • fatal or serious injuries have been received
  • civil legal proceedings are taking place or are anticipated
  • a witness subpoena (a summon for an individual to provide evidence) is served on the officer

You can make a request:

  • directly to the officer

Your request will be forwarded to the officer if not known to you, who will contact you directly, if they wish to do so.

  • There is a fee for this service and you will need to provide a cheque made payable to ‘PCC for Avon and Somerset‘ to the police officer prior to the interview taking place.

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 provide an exemption and allows the police to process personal data for the following purposes:

  • legal proceedings and civil claims
  • prospective legal proceedings
  • the provision of or for obtaining legal advice

The process

Authorisation will be required from your client and the appropriate fee will be requested.

  • On receipt of a request, you will be notified of our initial fee for processing and research.
  • You will then be advised as to what information is available and provided with a final itemised bill.
  • On receipt of the final payment, the information will be sent to you.

Solicitors who want to obtain their client’s personal information can make a request online – apply for access to your personal data.

However you will not be able to obtain other police information or third party data that may not be your clients personal information.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary cannot accept liability for delays caused by circumstances beyond its control where other lawful obligations have or need to be prioritised.
