Rough Sleeping & Begging

Anti-social Behaviour(ASB) associated around begging at Eastgate Retail Centre.

We will be tackling this criminal behaviour. It causes extra calls to the police, rubbish, defecation and drug paraphernalia.

Actions

  • 1 March 2022

We are continuing to work alongside our Streetwise team and supporting charities to help those who are rough sleeping.

If you have any concerns please do report this to us and help us to help them by supporting the charities that are making a difference to help our homeless community.

  • 8 November 2021

As the days get darker and nights get longer, we must keep our homeless population safe as we can.

Please help us to help our sleeping rough population by donating directly to the charities that are doing sterling work in Bristol. Please do not give them money directly.

  • 1 October 2021

I have seen an increase in accommodation being found for some of our more vulnerable people that have been sleeping rough. This is good news. Work is, and will always continue to keep them safe.

If you have any concerns please do report this to us and help us to help them by supporting the charities that are making a difference to help our homeless community.

  • 2 September 2021

As the nights start to draw in, we need to ensure that we can re-house as many of our rough sleeps. Please share any concerns that you have by reporting direct to us or StreetLink.

  • 5 August 2021

Work is on-going and I am pleased to say that we have seen a reduction in reports around rough-sleeping and begging in the Lockleaze area. Housing is at a shortage at present across the country and this is addressed with new developments coming up. If you have any concerns, you can report your rough-sleeping concerns direct to StreetLink or anything criminal to Police on 101/999.

  • 2 July 2021

We have seen a reduction in numbers that have been sleeping rough as accommodation has been found for them, which is good news all round.

If you see anyone sleeping rough please report this to StreetLink who will go and visit them and will put them in touch with the right organisations that can help.

  • 1 June 2021

It is tough on the streets and we will do our best to help our homeless. For some of them, this is how they choose to live which may be hard to understand. We will not tolerate any criminal activity and we will deal by arresting any offenders. Please do not us know if you are experiencing any problems.

  • 5 January 2021

Happy New Year to you all.

Now that we are in another Lock Down it is even more important that our homeless population is safe and can isolate.

Please support those charities that are helping our homeless community.

  • 10 November 2020

Please help us to help our homeless community by donating to the Charities that help them and not to give them money direct to them as this does cause us problems with anti social behaviour.

  • 1 October 2020

Work is on-going and we will continue to work with our homeless community to get them back into accommodation. However, we will not tolerate criminal behaviour and although it may look as if we are not doing anything, I can assure we are. During the current times, we are seeing restrictions and delays in services.

  • 3 September 2020

As services start to become available again, we are in a better position to encourage our rough sleepers to get the help they require.

This work is on-going, it may take us time but we need to start to build a trusting relationship and engage our partnership agencies.

We will not tolerate any criminal behaviour and will deal robustly.

  • 2 August 2020

It has been a tough few months for all of our rough sleepers. Our partnership agencies have been working really hard to home and secure future housing for all. Sometimes individuals do not want any help and although we cannot make them accept help. We will always do our best to make sure that they are safe.

This work is on-going and we are working closely with The Streetwise team to ensure every possible action can be taken. AT the same time we will not tolerate any criminal activity and we welcome any reports and will continue to work with agencies.

  • 13 November 2019

We have recently had a meeting with our Streetwise team who support our homeless in the Bristol area.

We are working with local businesses who will now feed direct to Streetwise team and St Mungos and we will all work together to ensure they are given help with their healthcare, housing and benefits.

  • 4 September 2019

We are seeing an increase in the Lockleaze area and we are working with local businesses, StreetWise and anti-social behaviour (ASB) team too, first of all, get them help if they want help and to get them into accommodation.

This work is on-going and it would help us that if you would like to give them money, to donate to the charities that help the homeless. I know it can be heartbreaking to see but it is a life choice and without knowing their full story can be difficult to understand.

More than often the money that you give direct will be spent on alcohol and or drugs this, in turn, will have it’s own problems with ASB issues locally which is what we are working to, to reduce. So your help with this would be gratefully received.

  • 2 May 2019

We are seeing an increase in rough sleeping in the Lockleaze area and we are doing our best to ensure that they are receiving help and putting them in touch with the right people. This takes time.

Please help us by not giving any rough sleepers any money and help the charities by donating directly to them that help them. We would like them off the streets and in a safe place long term.

  • 1 December 2018

On-going work with rough-sleepers and reports of begging in the Eastgate area.

This work has its challenging points and we would ask members of the public to not give any money to beggars, although we cannot stop you we politely ask that if you would like to help to donate to local charities in the area that look to work with rough-sleepers in re-housing them.
