What to expect after reporting a crime
Being a victim of crime or witnessing an incident can be stressful and upsetting.
All victims of crime get a Victim Information Pack (VIP), which explains what happens after you report a crime and provides information on the various support services available.
The VIP also includes details about:
- what you can expect from police
- how to request, or provide, updates on your case
- Victims’ rights including the Victims’ Code – what it is, who can use it, and how to complain if you feel your rights are not met
- types of victims
- making victim personal statements
- the Victims’ Right to Review – what is is, who can use it, and how to appeal a decision
- going to court – what to expect and available support
- alternatives to going to court, such as Restorative Justice

- how to give us feedback on the service you receive
