Report lost and found property

If you have lost or found property in a public place, we may be able to help.

UK Police Forces have agreed that lost and found property is not the police’s responsibility. However, we do provide a service with regards to certain items of found property.

We will accept:

  • Items capable of containing data, such as mobile phones, computers, and tablets
  • Illicit items, such as weapons, ammunition and drugs
  • Significant amounts of cash
  • Handbags, bags, wallets and purses containing items within that make the owner identifiable

We will not accept:

  • Bicycles, including e-bikes and e-scooters
  • Animals
  • Property where an owner is not identifiable, such as spectacles, keys, clothing and empty handbags

Lost property

If you have lost a non-hazardous item, you can report it to Report My Loss for a fee. It is an online service developed in consultation with UK police forces that allows you to report lost property, a step that is often requested by insurers. With this service, you no longer need to telephone or visit a police station.

To determine the best option for reporting lost and found property, you can use our online form to help guide you.
