Police and Fire Headquarters

Our purpose-built force headquarters in Portishead was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 2 June 1995.

Police HQ is closed to the public

If you need to speak to an officer, visit an enquiry office at your local police station.

For official visitors to the site who have an appointment, the buildings are clearly identified and reception staff will be happy to help you.

Visitor parking

We have recently opened a new visitor car park which you will need to use on your first day. The postcode for HQ is: BS20 8JJ

If you’re coming up Valley Road, you will need to go across the small roundabout and continue up Weatherly Drive (do not turn right at the small roundabout – even though this is the official entrance to HQ it cannot be used by visitors anymore).

Just before the bus stop, turn right. There is a set of green gates – and to the right of these, a small car park. Please park here and make your way to reception.

You can also use the What3words location: nest.developer.skim

Staff parking and deliveries

At the Valley Road roundabout, take the exit into Police and Fire HQ. Following your SatNav directions will bring you to this car park. Deliveries should be made to this entrance.

There is no visitor access via the Staff entrance.

About Headquarters

The site hosts various operational departments and administrative functions. These range from Criminal Investigations and the Road Policing Unit, to Purchasing and Supply.

The number of operational officers on site is kept to a minimum, with the exception of the training centre, therefore the vast majority of people who work on site are police staff who support operational policing.

The site has a large conference room which can seat up to 200 people and is regularly used for Chief Constable Commendations and Waley-Cohen Awards. There are also a number of smaller meeting rooms and venues.
