Additional support for people with dementia

Dementia covers a range of progressive neurological disorders and affects people in different ways.

If you have a family member or friend with dementia, there are services and support available to help.

Support services

  • Western Power Distribution
Customers of Western Power Distribution can join their Priority Services Register to get extra support in the event of a power cut. When you sign up you will also be registered for the Bristol Water and Wessex Water Priority Service. This will enable customers to get extra support in the event of a water supply interruption.
  • Avon and Somerset Dementia Facebook Forum
To share initiatives, ideas and information across Avon and Somerset, visit the Avon and Somerset Dementia Forum on Facebook.
  • As part of an initiative by Avon and Somerset Police and Dementia UK, you can use this phone prompt card to instruct a person with dementia to end their phone call and contact their trusted person. This reduces the risk of them releasing personal information or parting with funds. The trusted person can then make verification checks and implement call blockers.

Register for the Dementia Safeguarding Scheme (Herbert Protocol)

This is a national scheme which allows carers, family and friends to provide useful information which can be used in the event of a vulnerable person going missing. Register for the Dementia Safeguarding Scheme (Herbert Protocol).
