Trading Standards have alerted us that so-called “Nottingham Knockers” are calling at homes in the Bath area.
The most recent occurrence was in Broadway, Bath, on the evening of Wednesday 12 February.
A male in his late-twenties has knocked on the door and told the resident that he had just been released from prison, and was part of a rehabilitation programme.
He then tried to sell some household items.
This is a common method of door-to-door selling, and the products are often of poor quality and over-priced.
We want to remind residents they are under no obligation to answer the door to anyone they don’t know or aren’t expecting.
If you do talk to them, they are supposed to be able to provide a valid Pedlar’s Certificate and should leave your property when asked.
