Coronavirus (COVID-19): the policing response and what you need to know

Frome Rural PACT priority – Rural Theft

After the current Frome Rural PACT meeting, it was decided that rural theft would become a PACT priority.

Examples of rural theft – non-dwelling burglaries, theft of farm implements, theft of livestock. Our aim is to educate our rural communities/stakeholders about reporting of crime and preventative measures they can implement to reduce the chance of becoming a victim of crime.

Actions

  • Thursday 7th May, 2020

Recently we have noticed an increase in rural theft, especially plant. We believe the thieves are taking advantage of COVID lockdown restrictions with less potential witnesses around.

Be extra vigilant, ensure machinery is secured and marked. If you see anything suspicious, let us know. Stay safe.

  • Wednesday 15th April, 2020

We are aware that due to the COVID-19 pandemic many people will not be visiting their workshops, Lockups or business premises as frequently. We have been increasing visibility patrols around our rural lock-ups to deter attempts of thefts. Patrols have been carried out both during the day and after dusk.

If you have recently been a victim of rural theft please report it to the Police by calling 101.

  • Tuesday 17th March, 2020

Within the past week, the Frome Rural beat team have recovered a stolen trailer.

We are in the process of tracking its owner and hoping for a positive outcome.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind our rural communities the advantage of marking their property in a distinctive way and taking note of any serial numbers.

Both of these help in returning the property to their rightful owner when recovered.

If you would like more information on how you can mark your property, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with your local beat team.

  • Thursday 27th February, 2020

We have received intelligence of vehicles potentially used in rural theft.

These have been disseminated to the broader police teams operating locally to stop and check these vehicles.

This will disrupt criminal activity in our community, and decisive action will be taken where appropriate.
