James Wright sadly died on Tuesday 30 November.

Tributes have been paid to a man who has died following a road traffic collision between a van and mobility scooter in Chard.

James Wright was riding his mobility scooter along Furnham Road at approximately 10.10am on Saturday 27 November at the time of the incident.

The 84-year-old was taken to hospital where sadly he died on Tuesday 30 November. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

In a statement, his family said: “It is with deep sorrow that James Wright – known as Paddy to friends and family – sadly passed away on Tuesday morning.

“He was a lovely, happy joking family man. Those whom he met on his life’s journey would have laughs and jokes with him aplenty. He was a gentleman to all. He loved to help anyone.

“Even in his final hours he continued to joke saying the nurses found him attractive as they were all over him.

“He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He brought sunshine and laughter to us all.”

Enquiries into the collision are ongoing.
